What you said made many good sense. But, consider this to be, what if you added in somewhat content? What i’m saying is, I dont want to tell you how to run your website, but what if you included some thing to maybe get peoples attention? Similar to a video or a photo or two to acquire people interested in what you have to talk about. I think, it’d help make your blog site come to life a bit more.

It should work. However, you can contact Nissin for your particular model. Also try looking for MINOX USA to get your flash checked for your camera version. We have successfully tested the Di866 on a Canon SLR…

The version is for Canon as it is written on the label.
Tried both ways but not working.
Does Nissin di866 remote features works on all Canon camera? Tks

It is a big possibility that the flash is incompatible on that setting. However if you are sure that you have the Canon Version of the Di866 then, try and make sure you turn on the camera first before turning on the flash. Second, try default settings first, then turn off both the flash and the slr. Turn them on again camera first before the flash. After that try to go to that setting once again and try if it works…

My apologies for being too brief. I would like to trigger it remotely with my 5D MkII. I tried setting Flash C.Fn Settings: meesage: This Menu cannot be displayed. Incompatible flash or flash’s power is turned off.
    Tks.

@bclook: What kind of wireless do you mean? Do you mean CLS with other Nikon Flash? Commander mode for CLS? Or the Nissin proprietary flash triggering?

There are several wireless methods you can use for the Nissin Di866, so it would be helpful if you could explain how you plan to use the wireless options…

I bought a Nissin di866 but having difficulty on the Remote triggering the flash wireless setting. Need some guidance on this. Tks

@Sarah: whatever Nissin model you bought, it would still be a good buy, since the Nissin Di622 can now be triggered by flash triggers like the cactus and other wireless flash triggers other than the built-in wireless mode of the Nissin which depends on the commanders camera flash being able to support TTL mode.

As for the Di866, I already have two of those, and my only complain so far is it is a battery hog. However if you have a Nikon Flash, the Nissin Di866 can function with them in CLS mode, that means full support as in commander mode, or slave mode. This flash is really a good buy for me, but I had to invest for a modified external battery pack to support it’s power hungry feature. Unlike the Di622 that has a faster recycle time even with a regular alkaline battery…

I purchased the Nissin Di 622 from http://www.amazon.con because I could not find sufficient information and positive comments on the Nissin Di 866 external flash unit.

I certainly hope that I did not make a mistake. I am a professional Digital Camera Instructor, and I really want to demonstrate and recommend a dependable and cost effective flash unit.

Hi Worried. Yes, most Nissin Di866 depending on where you bought it from has some mechanical noise with it since it uses servo to manually adjust the automatic distance settings to get the proper exposure… Regarding it won’t turn on again, did you replace it with newer batteries. Also the Di866 has an overheat protection, so when it triggers, you wont be able to use the flash until it cools off. Try again later and see if it turns on. If all else fails, have it replaced as maybe the one you bought has a factory defect…

i just bought mine last saturday, to shot for my brother’s wedding… it was very noisy (mechanical noise) after a couple of shot i around 100 it stopped working! i replaced the battery still wont work!

Yes even the old Nissin Di622 has some servo noise. Try my suggestion prior to your comment if you want to eliminate the noise, but it’s really nothing to worry about. Some other models will be a lot less noisy than the others though…

Hi, I bought mine from a German site (Foto Erhardt)
    a model for canon
There is also a lot of noise (sound)
Obviously this “problem” is recurring …

what to do ? what to think ?

We are currently extensively testing the di866, MINOX sent us some units for review, and it is not that noisy. Warranty card is also inside the box. Make sure you check before buying. If you plan to get some, go get it at Minox, they are the main reseller of the Nissin Di866.

As for fixing the noise, have someone open your unit and add synthetic grease on the servo. Ours had some, maybe your unit has dried up.

As for warranty, you can always ask for a store warranty if your Nissin box didnt include one…

Sorry for the late response, we are undergoing a staff change…

I thought this was going to be a great buy… cheaper and just as efficient. It is very simple and user-friendly, but it is so noisy!! I don’t mean like color noise, I mean the thing makes a ton of noise. I shot a wedding with it and was embarrassed by the racket!

Maybe, just maybe, it’s just mine…

I found one at Arlington Camera in Arlington, TX. They got them in a week ago and their Nikon guy was ranting and raving about them. I took a look at them tonight and it looks pretty good. It felt really solid. I didn’t have a chance to see it work. The one part I was skeptical about was the warranty. No where in the documentation did it say what it was. No one behind the counter knew. They even called their sales rep on the phone and he didn’t know. They should have an answer for me tomorrow but that part made me leave there without purchasing. They did find a warranty comment on the Di622 that stated the warranty is void without the warranty card but there were no warranty cards in the box. I need a little more info before I purchase one.

I have been researching this flash for about a month (July 09). There are great write-ups about it, but there aren’t any retailers that list the Power Pack Pro 300 as even existing. Where would one go to order the di866 and power pack pro 300?
