Android: To Root or Not To Root
Many people were dismayed as to my somewhat beginners take on the subject of Making their Androids Run Faster. Some failed to read the most important line of the article in which I said:
I argue that for people technically capable, the best method is to root your android. However that’s the lamest suggestion you can give to hundreds of people who just want to make their phone run faster.
Now to proceed on a more positive note to the people who actually know what the term “rooting” is for. Rooting is basically in a definition is getting to the bottom of things, or the start of a tree. The bare-bones, bare necessity or the way the system is without its Operating System.
So basically when you do “root” your phone, you are basically voiding your warranty for your device. That being said, if you are adventurous enough to try and root your phone, then I have a couple of hints to give away.
But first be warned, rooting your phone and making the wrong step in the middle of something (i.e. booting, installing and connecting) might turn your phone into an expensive paper weight. So be very careful and make sure you read everything about your device before attempting.
Breathe easy now, since the advent of modern Android versions like the Android 4, codenamed Ice Cream Sandwhich you might not need to root your phone. The main purpose of rooting is to optimize the way your device perform, but with devices like Samsung Galaxy S II on the block and a lot of Dual-core, high memory android devices coming out in 2012, you wont worry about rooting altogether.
The best suggestion I can give if you want to start rooting your Android phone is to visit CyanogenMod.
It is an aftermarket firmware (a software you run over your rooted android device) while still having the good backup of your stock Firmware. In my opinion, it is currently the safest way to experiment with rooting an android phone. So go there now and start investigating, this post was about putting you in the right, safest direction to rooting. But the question remains, “To Root Or Not To Root” that is the dilemma.
